Base building

I know I'm behind in posting - sorry. Things have been very hectic around home. Hubby has changed careers and things are demanding a lot of his time and energy right now. In the past he has been incredibly supportive of my training schedule, but he isn't available to look after other things this year. I knew this may happen when I signed up for IM and we decided to do it anyway, but of course there are days when I don't know how I'm going to manage everything. IM is a dream goal so I'm going to do everything possible to cross that finish line. I would have loved to meet Wade's (the race director at GWN) challenge of finishing the half iron in 6:30 this year but I don't know if that will be possible.

Training so far has been going well - I'm currently at 11 hours a week. 4 bikes/4 runs/2 swims a week, including one bike ride at 5am before work. I'm doing 3 weeks at this schedule and then 1 cutback week at 60% of this. It's base building period and it's going well. Over the last 8 weeks I've seen an increase in my running speed while still in heartrate zone 1 and my body has adapted to the training schedule. Next week I start reporting to my coach on a daily basis again.

So far this years race schedule includes:

Apr 20 - St. Albert 10 Miler: had an awesome race here last year. The goal is to beat my time of 1:52

May 3 A half marathon: not sure which one yet this was mentioned by my coach

July 6th - Great White North half ironman - take 3. The goal is to beat 7:00

Aug 24th - IRONMAN CANADA. The goal is sub 17

There will be other races added here and there as we go but this is what's on the schedule. Hopefully I see another personal best setting year!
