It's a done deal.....I'M IN!
Went to Penticton to watch Ironman and had the opportunity to ride the famous Richters Pass while I was there.
Here we are at the top of Richters. It was tough but doable. We rode 65kms that day and I really hurt because I just wasn't in the right shape for that kind of ride.
I'm glad I did it though. I know mentally I'm going to be thinking about that bike course for hours and hours while I ride on the trainer all winter. At least now, Richters is not such an unknown.
Watching the Ironman was amazing, the helicopter flying over top of the swim start and all the people. I spent a lot of my day cheering on Yellow Lake (the last big climb at 140kms) which was fantastic.
This was definitely the Kodak moment of the day - this motorhome broke down half way up Yellow Lake so these spectators pushed it up the hill because it was the blocking the only remaining lane for traffic.By 8pm I was exhaused (from just watching and cheering all day) and went back to a friends in Kelowna. Does make me wonder how I'm going to handle racing for that long when I couldn't even cheer that long.
I know it's going to be the most amazing experience of my life. Get ready for a 50 week journey...
